Our goal is not just to provide you with a City and Guilds certificate but to equip you with the best possible plastering skills to help you enter the industry with ease.

Plastering Course Content

To achieve this City & Guilds award will require you to undertake Plastering training and assessment using credits which are achieved by covering various units from the C&G 6218.

Throughout the programme you will be assessed on the following City & Guilds 6218 units:

Unit 005: Mark out, remove damaged plaster, clean and prepare damaged area, mix and apply render, mix and apply plaster to smooth finish.

Unit 006: Check the accuracy of levelling equipment and transfer levels using a spirit level and straight edge.

Unit 118: Prepare surfaces, apply corner beads, background plaster coat, setting coat and a finish coat to a wall and attached piers.

On top of these units we will also cover:

• Health and Safety Requirements, the correct use of materials, equipment and tools.
• Planning, cutting and fixing gypsum plasterboard.
• Angle beads. Cutting, fixing, applying jointing tape.
• Using a plasterer’s hawk and trowel, applying plaster to brick work and plasterboard. How to apply the plaster and produce a good finish.
• Exterior rendering, materials, levelling, finishing.
• Applying gypsum-based backing plasters.
• Two coat skimming with multi finish ready for decorating.
• Invisible patch repair to a damaged plasterboard wall.
• Tools and equipment advice and training.
• Plaster products recommended and explained.
• Most importantly free tea and coffee from a good old fashion kettle!
• Over the 3 week training period, we will teach you numerous plastering skills giving you the confidence to successfully achieve the City & Guilds 6218 Plastering award.

With this plastering course being a fully hands on we recommend that this is reflected in your choice of clothing, Steel toe capped footware is essential.

Plastering Progression

Silver Trowel offers 2 City and Guilds plastering courses, this one which is a 3 week course and is a plastering award and the other one is a 5 week course and is a plastering certificate. If you feel after attending the plastering award you would like to continue on to the plastering certificate that’s OK just lets us know as soon as you can.

Unit 208: The aim of this unit is to provide you with the skills and knowledge be able to apply plasterboard for dry lining and to apply a finish coat.

On top of these units we will also cover:

Whether you are a complete novice or have already tried your hand at bricklaying, we have a course to suit you. We ensure that all of the stages of bricklaying are covered so that even as a complete novice, you will leave with a full understanding of all areas of bricklaying and this will be your foundation should you wish to progress with your training.

If you have a specific project in mind, our instructors will do their best to adjust the course to suit your learning requirements. If you have building plans or drawings, bring them along and receive guidance from our Bricklaying instructors.

Bricklaying Instructors

Our Bricklaying instructors have spent many years working as Bricklayers on site and have now transferred their skills to a training environment and additionally, have obtained the required qualifications to teach and assess people.

The two skills together ensure that the training courses we provide are to a very high standard and also ensure that everyone attending, for whichever course option, all receive the very highest standard of teaching and shared knowledge. They are also regularly available to provide you with any after course support you may need.

Short intensive courses

If you are looking to undertake bricklaying for a personal project rather than as a career, we can provide you with a 5 day introductory course to get you started this option is also available over weekends.

If you have a more complicated bricklaying project then maybe a 5 day Advanced Bricklaying course will suit you better. There is also the option to learn about Paving and block paving.

Experience in delivering construction training has allowed us to listen and learn and establish the needs of bricklayers everywhere, whatever your bricklaying skill level, we are sure that there is a bricklaying course here for you.

From beginners to time served bricklayers everywhere, we can teach you, progress you and even qualify those of you who have been bricklaying forever.

Summary

We are open 7 days every week and can accommodate people wanting to learn bricklaying at weekends including the option to obtain a qualification in bricklaying incorporating weekend training.
